Fiber Optic Rail Traffic Sensors

Sensor Line’s rail traffic sensors (FORPS) are state of the art in fiber optic sensor technology. The principle of construction ensures durability and protection against environmental impacts as well as highest fail-safety.

SL FORPS UIC 60

The SL FORPS UIC 60 sensor is designed to measure the vertical impact of a train onto the rail. It picks up vibrations and shocks in a wide frequency range and is therefore well suited for train and track maintenance diagnostics.

Dimension: UIC 60 165 x 150 x 7 mm; UIC 60 HS 220x 150 x 9 mm

Load applied to a FORPS sensor causes a decrease of light transmitted through a special fiber-optic structure, which is embedded in the elastomer rail pad. The optical fiber is connected to an opto-electronic interface, which emits light into it and analyses the amount of light arriving at its opposite end.
