Fiber Optic Rail Traffic Sensors
Sensor Line’s rail traffic sensors (SL FORPS) are state of the art in fiber optic sensor technology. The principle of construction ensures durability and protection against environmental impacts as well as highest fail-safety. FORPS are easy to install without any mechanical machining and available for every rail system.
The Fiber Optic Rail Pad Sensor (FORPS) is a polyurethane-based reinforced fiber optic rail traffic sensor designed for permanent installation between the rail and the sleeper substituting the elastomer pad. FORPS generates a load dependent output signal for further signal processing. It picks up vibrations and shocks in a wide frequency range from a train and is therefore well suited for train and track maintenance diagnostic. Load applied to a SL FORPS causes a decrease of light transmitted through a special fiber-optic structure which is embedded in the elastomer rail pad. The optical fiber is connected to our opto-electronic interface which feeds light into it and analyzes the amount of light arriving at its opposite end.
